Rockies put Rafael Betancourt on the disabled list

Weakened by a three-week battle with a sinus infection, and frustrated by his recent poor outings, Rockies veteran right-handed reliever Rafael Betancourt knew it was time for a break.

So he sat down with manager Walt Weiss and they decided that Betancourt should go on the disabled list, beginning Monday.

Taking his place on the 25-man roster is right-handed pitcher David Hale, who was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque and will start Monday night's game against the St. Louis Cardinals.

"I have just been feeling sick and weak while I've had this sinus problem," Betancourt said, adding that his arm, and specifically his surgically repaired elbow, are fine.
