One of the Rockies’ prospects has been named the top shortstop and most valuable player in the California League.
Fresno Grizzlies infielder Ryan Ritter on Tuesday was announced as the winner of the awards, as voted on by the league’s managers. Ritter, who’s listed as the Rockies’ 20th-best prospect by MLB Pipeline, slashed .305/.405/.606 with 18 home runs and 58 RBIs in 65 games with the Single-A club before earning a promotion to High-A Spokane in July. He now plays for Double-A Hartford.
The 6-foot-2, 200 pounder was selected in the fourth round (116th overall pick) of the 2022 MLB amateur draft out of the University of Kentucky.
