When the Rockies brought Matt Holliday up to the big league club, there was going to be an odd-man out somewhere on the bench. That odd-man turned out to be infielder Garrett Hampson (no. 5 PuRP). He only got 27 plate appearances in the majors but he hit .273/.407/.409 with five walks and five strikeouts while playing second base, third base, and centerfield.
But it was back to Triple-A for Hampson and he certainly gave the Rockies notice for why they called him up in the first place. Leading off and playing shortstop for the Isotopes, Hampson singled in the first, struck out in the third, doubled and scored the go-ahead run in the sixth, and added another double in the eighth.
