Elehuris Montero has a chance to be much more than a footnote in the Nolan Arenado trade. His Roy Hobbs-like July proved that.
Of course, the Hartford Yard Goats’ 22-year-old infielder doesn’t think of his career in that context. Why would he? He’s too busy crushing baseballs, honing his skills at third base, and trying to figure things out as a potential Rockies’ first baseman.
Montero’s July numbers at the Double-A level were startlingly good. He hit .416, launched 12 home runs, drove in 27 runs and posted an OPS of 1.298. No-brainer alert: Montero was honored as the Double-A Northeast League’s player of the month.
