Rockies’ owner Dick Monfort “optimistic” Nolan Arenado will sign long-term deal

Rockies owner Dick Monfort is upbeat about star third baseman Nolan Arenado being in a Rockies uniform for years to come.

“I’m optimistic that we are close enough that something will come about,” Monfort said Monday during a phone interview. “It’s in Nolan’s hands, but my last impression with him is that this is something he wants to do.”

Monfort developed his optimism from a meeting last week when he and general manager Jeff Bridich flew to California to meet with Arenado and his agent, Joel Wolfe. Most encouraging to Monfort was the fact that it was Arenado who requested the meeting.
