SAN DIEGO — “Prolonged Funk” sounds like a band from the 1970s. In this case, however, it refers to the current state of the Rockies. In particular, it refers to their foundering offense.
Once again, Rockies’ hitters never found their groove in a disheartening 7-0 loss to the San Diego Padres at Petco Park. The Rockies, aiming for their first National League title, or at least a wild-card playoff berth, fell to 1-3 on their current West Coast road trip and lost for the fifth time in their last seven games.
Back-to-back home runs off Colorado reliever Jake McGee in the eighth — a two-run shot by Luis Urias, followed by Wil Myers’ solo shot — put the game completely out of reach.
