Rockies manager Walt Weiss underwent an appendectomy surgery

ANAHEIM, Calif. — Rockies manager Walt Weiss left the ballpark late Wednesday afternoon before Colorado's game against the Los Angeles Angels because of stomach pain.

Weiss, 51, was taken to a local hospital for tests. It is not known if he will return for Wednesday night's game againt the Angels. Rockies head trainer Keith Dugger accompanied Weiss to the hospital.

Weiss began experiencing stomach pain Tuesday night during the Rockies' 5-2 loss to the Angels.

If Weiss is unable to manage, bench coach Tom Runnells will take his place.
