SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Over his nine-year tenure as San Diego’s manager, Bud Black kept his finger on the pulse of the local baseball scene. So by the time Tyler Nevin reached Poway High School in 2011, Black knew him as more than just major league veteran Phil Nevin’s son.
“Naturally I just sort of followed youth sports in San Diego, and once he got into high school I knew he was on the radar,” Black said. “From the scouting side, I tracked him a little bit.”
Nowadays, Black is tracking Nevin a lot more as the Rockies manager considering the prospect is coming off a career year in Class-A Advanced Lancaster in 2018.
