NEW YORK — The Rockies’ road trip to redemption began like “National Lampoon’s Vacation.”

It was a disaster, minus the comedy.

After getting swept in four games at home by San Francisco, the Rockies put on a brave face and talked about keeping their fading playoff hopes alive with a strong showing on the East Coast. But the mighty Yankees whipped the Rockies 8-2 Friday night in the Bronx, sending them to their fifth consecutive loss and 12th defeat in their last 14 games.

The Rockies struck out 17 times, leading manager Bud Black to say: “Tonight was a bad night, no doubt about it.
