Rockies lose controversial call, manager and game as Astros hit 4 HRs

The umpire gave Walt Weiss the heave-ho in the third inning Wednesday, and the Coors Field faithful went scrambling to look up, of course, Section II, subsection D, sub-subsection 1 of Major League Baseball's replay regulations.

The Rockies — trying to reverse a wicked 1-5 road trip that dropped them back into last place — returned to Coors Field for a rare rain-free game in Denver. But they were done in by the rule book.

As Weiss stalked second-base umpire Jerry Layne down the first-base line in the third, the Rockies lost hold again. They lost a video replay challenge, lost their manager to an early ejection, then lost another game to the bomb-hitting Houston Astros 8-4 in front of 33,041 at Coors Field.
