The Padres trashed Kyle Freeland’s final home start of the season.
The Rockies’ left-hander is a technician and when he’s precise, he’s very good. Witness his last five performances entering Sunday. In those five starts, he gave up three or fewer runs in each, going 2-2 with a 1.84 ERA.
But when the left-hander misses his spots, he sometimes gets hit like a piñata. Such was the case Sunday when the Padres whacked Freeland for seven runs on nine hits in just 2 2/3 innings.
“Today there was poor execution and when there was (good) execution, there were good swings,” he said.
