Kyle Freeland, never one to back down from a challenge or a big moment, will be making his 2021 debut Tuesday at Citi Field against the majors’ best pitcher in the Mets’ Jacob deGrom.
Consider it more fuel for Freeland’s fire as the southpaw, who has been sidelined since spring training with a left shoulder injury, aims to help alleviate Colorado’s road woes.
“He’s excited to start his season back against deGrom,” Rockies pitching coach Steve Foster said. “And I think that’s pretty cool, too.”
DeGrom, also returning from the injured list, exited his last start May 9 with right side tightness and was placed on the 10-day injured list the next day.
