Josh Fuentes received his big-league wake-up call when he was still in bed in his Albuquerque apartment on Saturday morning.
The call of a lifetime came from Rockies farm director Zach Wilson.
“He literally woke me up and said, ‘Hey, you’re going to Denver,” said the 26-year-old Fuentes, the younger cousin of Rockies star third baseman Nolan Arenado.
“I told (Wilson), ‘Can you tell me a couple of times?” I didn’t think he was being serious,” Fuentes said with a laugh.
With no flights available, Fuentes made a six-hour drive from Albuquerque to Coors Field, arriving in the second inning of the Dodgers-Rockies game.
