Rockies Jon Gray’s start cut short by calf cramp

MIAMI — Rockies starter Jon Gray wanted to pitch a full seven innings Sunday, but a cramp in his right calf ended his afternoon a bit early.

Gray departed the game with two outs in the seventh inning, having just fanned the Marlins’ Lewis Brinson for his 10th strikeout of the game. The right-hander was behind in the count 3-0 to opposing pitcher Sandy Alcantara when he abruptly stopped pitching.

Gray consulted on the mound with head trainer Keith Dugger, manager Bud Black, pitching coach Steve Foster and catcher Tony Wolters before heading to the dugout.
