Rockies’ Jon Gray seeks to change mental approach to break troubling slump

Theories abound about what Jon Gray must do to fix his broken season.

Part of the solution is mechanical, and Rockies pitching coaches Steve Foster and Darren Holmes have been working overtime with Gray to improve his fastball command, which, in turn, would make his slider more deadly to hitters.

But according to Gray, the solution to ending his frustrating slump is more mental than physical.

“I have to attack hitters, and I think a lot of that has to do with my mentality,” said Gray, who is scheduled to start Wednesday night at Cincinnati.
