SCOTTSDALE — At the news conference to introduce Nolan Arenado’s eight-year, $260 million deal that could have the third baseman playing in purple for life, team owner Dick Monfort described how he always has Colorado’s lineup roughly mapped out three to five years in advance.
And while Monfort won’t have to worry about who manager Bud Black is penciling in at the hot corner anytime in the near future, signing Arenado to the largest contract in club history begs the question: What does Colorado plan to do with its next batch of high-profile free agents?
Trevor Story, who has already burst into an all-star shortstop capable of blasting 500-foot bombs, hits the market in 2022, as does right-hander Jon Gray.
