The Rockies’ game of second base musical chairs gained momentary clarity in the heart of June.
Call it Ryan McMahon’s job to lose.
“You try to not focus on it,” McMahon said. “To not look at the big picture.”
Colorado optioned infielders Garrett Hampson (May 13) and Brendan Rogers (Saturday) to Triple-A Albuquerque, handing every-day second baseman duties to McMahon; a 2013 second-round Rockies draft choice who made his 32nd start at second base this season Sunday against the Padres. It seems McMahon, 24, will be given a significant chance to prove he belongs.
“It’s pretty obvious he’s going to get a lot of playing time, so it’s a great opportunity for Mac to be a productive contributor,” manager Bud Black said.
