Rockies hold off furious Reds rally to claim second straight victory

Once upon a time, in a galaxy far, far away, Rockies starter Chi Chi Gonzalez looked to be on the verge of throwing a complete game. Perhaps even a shutout.

But then the eighth inning happened and a Coors Field special broke out. When the smoke cleared, the Rockies survived with a 13-8 win over Cincinnati on Thursday night.

Gonzalez was excellent, pitching seven shutout innings, allowing just four hits, walking one and striking out two. But with the Rockies leading 10-0, manager Bud Black pulled Gonzalez at 88 pitches and brought in rookie lefty Lucas Gilbreath.
