More often than not, gritty is better than pretty, and the Rockies were the former — definitely not the latter — Friday night in a 5-4 comeback victory over the Reds to open a nine-game homestand.
Rookie Noel Cuevas delivered the game-winning knock with his first career triple as a pinch hitter in the sixth, bringing around Tony Wolters to score before the combination of Mike Dunn, Adam Ottavino and Wade Davis blanked Cincinnati for the final three innings.
“As a pinch hitter, going in you know that you might only have one pitch to hit,” Cuevas said.
