SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Statistics have been bandied about, traditional spring training optimism chronicled and the usual dire predictions cast as the Rockies approach their season opener against the Arizona Diamondbacks in Phoenix on Monday.
Yet for all of that, one simple sentence says more about the Rockies' direction than anything else.
"There's an intent here to continue to bombard this organization with impactful pitching," general manager Jeff Bridich said.
He spoke those words Jan. 29 when explaining why he traded slugging outfielder Corey Dickerson and third-base prospect Kevin Padlo to Tampa Bay for hard- throwing left-handed relief pitcher Jake McGee and promising right-handed reliever German Marquez.
