SURPRISE, Ariz. — Spring training numbers don’t mean a heck of a lot to Rockies manager Bud Black, but pitch command and mound presence sure do.
That’s why Black was so encouraged by right-hander German Marquez‘s three-inning start against the Texas Rangers at Surprise Stadium on Monday.
“He left a couple of pitches up, but I thought he threw well,” Black said. “His delivery looked good, and his stuff was fine. I thought it was great.
“He’s much more poised and under control of his game. He knows what he needs to do with his pitches.
