German Marquez’s rapid rise through the Rockies’ organization will land him on center stage Wednesday afternoon at Coors Field.
The right-hander is scheduled to make his first major-league start against the St. Louis Cardinals, capping a journey that began with Double-A Hartford (Conn.) and included a pit stop at Triple-A Albuquerque. He was a September call-up for the Rockies and made his debut Sept. 8, pitching 2u2153 innings of relief against the Padres.
Now Marquez gets a chance to audition for a spot in next year’s starting rotation. Marquez, 21, was the Eastern League pitcher of the year, going 9-6 with a 2.
