Rockies’ German Marquez — brilliant again — making strong bid to start All-Star Game

As far as auditions go, German Marquez killed it Saturday night at Petco Park.

The Rockies right-hander pitched seven scoreless innings and struck out nine in Colorado’s 3-0 shutout of San Diego.

Colorado, which won just its eighth road game in 42 tries, put together one of its best road performances of the season, outhitting the Padres 8-5 and snapping a nine-game losing streak at Petco.

There is a legitimate chance that the Rockies’ right-hander will be named the starter for the National League for Tuesday night’s All-Star Game at Coors Field. NL manager Dave Roberts, of the Dodgers, will make the call, but Marquez is showing his best side at the right time.
