The Rockies have their hopes hanging on the backs of two young pitchers throwing back-to-back this week at Coors Field. Eddie Butler and Jon Gray — linked since last year as "Butler and Gray," like a law firm or a sitcom — are back together again in the big leagues.
But Butler, the 24-year-old rookie right-hander who started Monday against the American League's Seattle Mariners, watched balls go back. And back.
The Mariners blasted Butler for three home runs in four innings and they backed up a truck over the Rockies, then held on for dear life in the ninth inning for an 8-7 victory with 33,107 in attendance in LoDo.
