As midnight neared Monday in Jupiter, Fla., there were multiple reports that Major League Baseball and the MLB Players Union were making progress toward ending the three-month-old labor lockout.
The two sides met in 10 different sessions as they attempted to reach an agreement on a new collective bargaining agreement. Much work still needed to be done, and according to USA Today, a lot of the negotiations centered on whether the postseason will be expanded to 14 teams, as the owners want, or 12 teams, as the players want.
Until Monday’s “Deadline Day” negotiations heated up, it appeared baseball was stumbling toward a truncated season.
