SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Garrett Hampson has played four different positions through four spring training games, flashing natural defensive ability in both his native middle infield as well as the outfield.
Expect the 24-year-old to continue to see outfield time throughout the Cactus League as Colorado keeps expanding the versatility of Hampson, a speedster who made his big-league debut last July.
“His natural athleticism is a great advantage for him,” manager Bud Black said. “He has foot speed, he has hands, there’s baseball instincts in there. When you combine those qualities, it makes for a player who’s not pigeonholed into one spot.
