DJ LeMahieu’s immediate baseball future remains in limbo as he awaits further diagnosis on his injured left thumb.
LeMahieu told The Denver Post on Wednesday that he was scheduled to see a hand specialist later in the day. The initial diagnosis was a sprained left thumb, but the Rockies are concerned that injury could be more severe. LeMahieu is currently on the 10-day disabled list.
“What we want to rule out is any sort of fracture or break,” manager Bud Black said Tuesday. “The degree of the sprain is concerning us. If it’s mild or a low-degree sprain, we’re in good shape and he could be back when his time’s up in 10 days.
