ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Veteran infielder Daniel Murphy, the Rockies’ only major offseason acquisition, will miss at least a month because of his left index finger’s avulsion fracture, manager Bud Black said Tuesday in an MLB Network Radio interview.
Black said it’s unclear whether Colorado’s first baseman will require surgery.
Murphy jammed his finger in Friday’s game against the Marlins when he jammed his glove hand while making a backhand play on a grounder. He was placed on the 10-day injured list Monday and utility man Pat Valaika was recalled to take Murphy’s place on the roster.
