Rockies infield prospect Colton Welker, a member of the 40-man roster, received an 80-game suspension without pay Thursday after testing positive for Dehydrochlormethyltestosterone (DHCMT), a performance-enhancing substance, in violation of Major League Baseball’s Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.
The suspension, which begins immediately, was announced by the office of the Commissioner of Major League Baseball.
“To my surprise and disappointment, I have learned that I have tested positive for Oral Turinabol, otherwise known as DHCMT,” Welker, 23, said in a statement issued by the MLB Players Association. “I want to make it very clear that I have never willingly nor intentionally ingested any substance to enhance my athletic performance.
