SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Rockies catcher Tony Wolters hates talking about himself. His teammates love talking about him. That tells you a lot about Wolters.
“Tony’s the best teammate and I’ve seen so much growth,” starting pitcher Jon Gray said Friday. “He’s so hands-on about everything. It’s almost like when we’re on the mound, he’s on the mound with us.”
Wolters, 27, is now securely cemented as Colorado’s No. 1 receiver, in large part because of the former infielder’s glovework, game-calling and growing leadership skills. Plus, his popularity among his teammates cannot be overstated.
