ARLINGTON, Texas — Rockies right fielder Carlos Gonzalez remained on the bench for Thursday afternoon’s game against the Texas Rangers because of a sore and swollen left ankle.
However, Gonzalez did some outfield sprints before the game and manager Walt Weiss said Gonzalez might be able to pinch-hit if needed. Gonzalez remains a few days away from starting in the outfield.
Also, veteran right-hander reliever Chad Qualls, 37, on the disabled list since July 16 because of severe stomach aliment, threw a 25-pitch simulation game Wednesday and will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Albuquerque on Saturday at Colorado Springs.
