In need of depth at the hot corner and with German Marquez headed to the 15-day injured list with right forearm inflammation, the Rockies called up Nolan Jones ahead of Wednesday’s homestand finale.
Once the Guardians’ top prospect, Cleveland traded Jones to Colorado in November in exchange for minor-league infielder Juan Brito. Jones’ call-up sets him up for an opportunity to fill in at third base (and elsewhere) with Elehuris Montero nursing a thumb/wrist injury.
“We’re optimistic German will be back within that 15-day (IL) period and we’re encouraged by (the non-seriousness) of it,” manager Bud Black said.
