LOS ANGELES — For one night during their lousy summer, the Rockies were finally conjuring up some magic. Chi Chi Gonzalez pitched his best game in almost four years and Nolan Arenado ripped yet another home run at Dodger Stadium.
Then Bryan Shaw happened.
Coming on in relief of Gonzalez, with one out and two on in the seventh, Shaw gave up a three-run homer to Russell Martin and then compounded the damage by serving up a solo homer to pinch hitter David Freese. Wade Davis, another piece of Colorado’s $106 million bullpen expenditure, was touched for a solo home run by Justin Turner in the eighth.
