Rockies’ beleaguered bullpen, led by Scott Oberg, making strides toward improvement

The Rockies’ weak link is getting stronger, at least for now.

The bullpen — which coughed up a number of games during the Rockies’ June swoon and has whitened fans’ knuckles all season — was on a nice run entering Saturday night’s game vs. the St. Louis Cardinals at Coors Field.

Over the previous five games, relievers had allowed no earned runs (one unearned), on five hits, with four walks and 18 strikeouts. Since Aug. 10, the bullpen has a 2.35 ERA and has posted a 6.0 record.

But manager Bud Black isn’t sold yet, but he’s seen improvement.
