Rockies’ assessment of their long-term stability at first base begins with Triple-A Albuquerque’s Roberto Ramos

1

First base has been a black hole for the Rockies since the final seasons of Todd Helton’s career. Three different opening day starters at the position in as many years indicate the lack of stability.

Is Triple-A Albuquerque first baseman Roberto Ramos the man for the long-term job in LoDo?

Ramos isn’t on the Rockies 40-man roster, so he’s probably not going to be part of September call-ups when rosters expand. To do so would require Colorado to remove another “bubble” infielder off its full 40-man (i.e. Pat Valaika or Josh Fuentes), and the club normally wouldn’t do that just to get a player a few at-bats for a month.
