During spring training, manager Walt Weiss talked about the Rockies' plan to construct a power-armed bullpen.
Things haven't worked out as planned — as evidenced by the bullpen's 4.87 ERA entering Thursday, by far the worst in the National League.
But that doesn't mean the blueprint has been scrapped.
Five right-handers in the Rockies' current bullpen — expanded by September's roster expansion — average more than 94 mph with their fastballs: veteran closer John Axford (96 mph), Scott Oberg (95), Miguel Castro (96), Jairo Diaz (97) and Justin Miller (94), who earned his first save Wednesday night against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
