SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Colorado’s opening day 25-man roster became clearer Saturday as the club optioned infielder Pat Valaika and reliever Carlos Estevez to Triple-A Albuquerque.
With those decisions, manager Bud Black also confirmed veteran first baseman Mark Reynolds, reliever DJ Johnson and outfielder Raimel Tapia will be on Colorado’s opening day roster.
Valaika had a solid spring at the plate with four homers, 13 RBIs and a .286 average, but it wasn’t enough to sway the staff to put him on the roster over Reynolds, signed Jan. 30 to be the club’s power bat off the bench.
