Regis Jesuit alum David Peterson selected by Mets with 20th pick in first round of 2017 MLB Draft

As a highly-touted pitcher at Regis Jesuit, David Peterson was on track to be taken early in the 2014 MLB Draft. A broken leg suffered while playing pickup basketball shortly before his senior season changed all that and Peterson tumbled down the draft board to the 28th round (854th pick overall) to the Red Sox.

Three years later, that ill-advised game of hoops looks like a blessing in disguise as Peterson — who elected to attend the University of Oregon following high school — was taken by the New York Mets with the 20th overall pick in Monday night’s first round of the 2017 MLB draft.
