Reds take series over Rockies as last-place Colorado ends road trip with playoff odds hovering around one percent

CINCINNATI — In a second straight defeat to the Reds at Great American Ballpark, the Rockies got exactly what they needed out of their starting pitcher: A chance.

But Colorado squandered the chance again, with rookie Peter Lambert’s serviceable outing going to waste in Cincinnati’s 3-2 victory. The offense didn’t do much besides one big swing by Yonder Alonso, while the bullpen — with a major-league worst 7.18 ERA in the month coming in — sealed the sinking club’s 12th loss in its last 16 games.

Cellar-dwelling Colorado (49-56) now sits 20 games back of the first-place Los Angeles Dodgers, who come to LoDo for a three-game series starting Monday.
