BOSTON — Boston Red Sox third baseman Pablo Sandoval, a $95 million free agent who lost his starting job before going on the disabled list, will have exploratory surgery on his left shoulder to determine the source of the injury.
The team announced Monday the procedure will be performed in Florida by Dr. James Andrews, a specialist in repairing ligaments. The Red Sox said they had no timetable for Sandoval's return, but ESPN reported that the two-time All-Star is expected to miss the rest of the season.
Beloved in San Francisco as Kung Fu Panda while winning three championships and the 2012 World Series MVP award, Sandoval signed with the Red Sox after the 2014 season for five years and $95 million.
