Red-hot Rockies rookie David Dahl gets first day off

Rockies manager Walt Weiss has indicated that his plans for handling the surplus of lefty-hitting outfielders on his roster will require some creativity.

Take Monday. Instead of choosing between red-hot rookie David Dahl and fresh-off-the-disabled-list veteran Gerardo Parra in left field, the manager sat them both and inserted right-hander Ryan Raburn into left field to face Texas Rangers ace southpaw Cole Hamels.

“Hamels is tough against everybody, but especially against left-handers,” Weiss said in explaining his lineup move. “David hasn’t had a day (off) since he came up here (on July 25). It’s a day game (Tuesday), so we were looking at the next 48 hours with certain guys.
