On a recent episode of Baseball Prospectus’s Effectively Wild podcast, hosts Sam Miller and Ben Lindbergh talked a bit about which team is furthest away from contention. One of the nominees was the Rockies. As a Rockies enthusiast, this sent my mind in a few directions.
The first two had to do with perception. On the one hand, perhaps they (and the many other nonpurpled folks who would likely offer the same answer if asked) dismissed the Rockies because the team and its system are just not there to the same extent as other organizations.
