New York Mets’ slugger Pete Alonso blasted 23 home runs in the final round to beat out Baltimore’s Trey Mancini and win the All-Star Home Run Derby Monday night at Coors Field. Alonso also won The Derby in 2019.
Alonso is the first player to win back-to-back since Yoenis Cespedes in 2014 and 2015. There was no All-Star Game last year because of the pandemic.
“I’m a power hitter and I think I’m the best power hitter on the planet,” Alonso said afterward. “Being able to showcase that and put on a fun display for the fans is truly a dream come true for me.
