Summer sounds like an opera of onomatopoeia — the ping! of a swing, the school-bell brrrriiiing! of a metal bat dropped on the street, the pfft-pfft-pfft of little Lily’s shuffling feet and the depressing and depressed ahhhhh! that Lorenzo makes after missing the pitch, knowing that if he’d hit the thing, it would’ve surely soared toward the imaginary bleachers.
