SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Hoop dreams? March Madness? Nolan Arenado can play that game, too.
The Rockies’ all-star third baseman, shooting left-handed, drained a 4-point shot from about 30 feet to lift his team to victory in the Rockies’ shooting contest Friday morning at their spring training complex at Salt River Fields.
Things looked bleak for the “SATA” team consisting of Tom Murphy, Yency Almonte, Trevor Story and Arenado. The Freeballin team — Kyle Freeland, Chris Rusin, Jeff Hoffman and Matt Pierpont — seemed to have the competition locked up when Arenado took the ball as the final shooter of the morning.
