Murphy called up for debut to replace Hundley

SEATTLE -- Tom Murphy thought he'd be spending most of his autumn in the desert, but the 24-year-old catcher was more than happy to quickly change his travel plans.

Instead of getting ready for the Arizona Fall League, Murphy made his Major League debut for the Rockies on Saturday night in Seattle one day after being called up when catcher Nick Hundley was placed on the 60-day disabled list with a cervical strain.

"It was one those things that you definitely weren't expecting since the season had ended for Minor Leagues, and they didn't tell me I was going up or anything like that, so it was pretty unexpected," said Murphy, who began the season with Double-A New Britain.
