SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Former major-league boss Mike Redmond is now a project manager. He’s charged with seasoning the Rockies’ young catchers for a full season in the majors.
Midway through spring training, Redmond is earning high marks from his employees.
“As a catcher, this is the best I’ve ever felt,” rookie Tom Murphy said. “I don’t mean just physically, I mean everything. Behind the plate, and between innings, talking with my pitchers. I’ve grown a lot.”
Added Tony Wolters, the infielder-turned catcher: “He’s been great. He doesn’t teach just one way. He knows that every catcher is different, so he kind of molds you that way.
