SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Mark Reynolds walked back into the Salt River Fields clubhouse Sunday morning as though he had never left.
Yes, he spent last season with the Nationals after the Rockies decided not to re-sign him, but now he’s back with Colorado after signing a minor-league contract.
“I stayed ready all winter, staying in shape in case somebody called,” said Reynolds, 35, who primarily played first base for the Rockies in 2016 and 2017. “It’s good to be back, it’s very familiar and I feel really comfortable here.”
But if he makes the 2019 team — which seems likely — his primary role will be different, that of a right-handed bat off the bench.
