DENVER -- Rockies second baseman DJ LeMahieu dropped his batting average from .406 at the end of April to .315 going into Monday night's game against the Phillies.
Rockies manager Walt Weiss described the downturn as "the cycle of a season," which makes sense -- .406 hasn't been sustainable since 1941. LeMahieu admitted that tumbling through the cycle takes a mental toll.
"It's the same every year," LeMahieu said. "You go into every Spring Training like, 'I'm not going to get frustrated this year. I'm going to keep going with it. Then you get to that point and you can't help but get frustrated, especially when the team's not going well, it compounds it.
