DENVER -- The Rockies scratched second baseman DJ LeMahieu from the starting lineup for Saturday night's game against the Mariners because of lower back tightness.
The club announced about an hour before the game that Pat Valaika would start at second base instead of LeMahieu.
In Friday night's 10-7 victory over the Mariners, LeMahieu made several standout defensive plays, along with going 2-for-5 at the plate, all while celebrating his 30th birthday.
LeMahieu (.279, 8 HR, 34 RBIs) has spent much of the year in the leadoff position.
